Pre-K Teacher: Victoria Eley (Room 203)
Ms. Victoria Eley teaches Pre K at Malcolm X Academy. Ms. Eley is a spiritualist and lover of nature. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Miss Eley has taught in West Oakland, West Africa, South Central and now Bay View; Hunters Point. Miss Eley was a foster youth who went on to earn her masters degree in Education from Mills college; specifically focusing on implementing a wholistic educational approach that takes the needs of the whole student, family and community into consideration. Miss Eley's life's vision is to be a part of an international community that provides housing, education, life skill preparation, and career training for youth, especially for orphaned and estranged children.
In a 2013 interview, Victoria was told, "Less than 1% percent of foster youth go on to earn graduate degrees. How do you feel about those statistics?” Eley replied, "I feel kinda bossy. Against all odds I made it." No weapon formed against me shall prosper.
Pre-K Para- Maryel Sanchez (Room 203)
Hola! I was born in Mexico and I have been in California since 2000. I'm a pre-k paraprofessional and I enjoy working with kids they are curious and I love to do art with them.
I'm a mother of three kids - ages 14,11 and 10. In my weekend I become my kids' taxi between soccer and football games. I love to BBQ with my family. In my "free time" I like to read, hike, watch Netflix and surf Pinterest.

My name is Megan McCauley and I am excited to join the Malcolm X team this year after teaching Special Education in New York for two years. When I am not teaching, you will find me exploring San Francisco and doing karaoke!

First Grade Teacher: Amy Berry (room 105)
This is my first year at Malcolm X Academy, and my first graders make me happy to come to school every day! I'm not from San Francisco, but my husband is, so I consider myself am honorary native of this great city. When I'm not at school you can usually find me climbing, cooking, reading, singing off-key to my two-year-old son, or just relaxing with family and friends.
Second Grade Teacher: Rachel Der (Room 108)
I am a proud native of San Francisco and my family has lived in the city for 3 generations. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, walking around the city, and spending time with my family.
Third Grade Teacher: Tim Puranen (Room 107)
I have taught second-graders at Malcolm X Academy since 2012. This year I am excited to be teaching third grade. My favorite color is green, although I thought it was red for most of my life. My favorite subject to teach is math, but science also awesome. I enjoy reading graphic novels, playing disc golf, and experimenting with my hair and facial hair. Find me in room 107, smiling, with a meter stick on my shoulder!
